Mask Of The Devil

A mask depicting the face of devil goes back centuries in Sri Lanka and is part of the traditional costume of the Kandyan era. The mask was worn by individuals mainly at ceremonies arranged to bring blessing to the sick and at selected religious ceremonies where they danced to the beat of drums whilst chanting, in the belief that these acts cast away evil.
